Retainers
Only at Lawless Orthodontics can you get up to 4 free retainers a year!
To complete your orthodontic journey, a set of clear retainers will be given to you in order to hold your new smile in place. Only at Lawless Orthodontics can you get up to 4 free retainers a year in case a set gets lost or broken! We can even have the brand-new set ready for you within 1 to 2 days!
Why is it important to wear your retainer? A retainer preserves and stabilizes your results. It helps control and limit potential changes in tooth position and holds teeth in their correct alignment while the surrounding gums, bone, and muscle adjusts to the new positioning of your teeth. Just as we tend to get shorter while we age, the bone in our jaws will change as well. Teeth are never stable. Nightly retainer wear for a lifetime (or no less than one night per week) is your best insurance to keep your smile in top shape!
Types of Retainers
- Retainers are custom-made and can be removable or fixed.
- Clear retainers look similar to clear aligners. They are produced from a mold of your newly aligned teeth. All we have to do to create them is take a digital scan of your teeth, no more goopy impressions necessary! As long as you have maintained your retainer wear and kept up with your molds, we will provide you a with a new clear retainer up to 4 times a year in case they get lost or broken!
- Fixed retainers consist of wires bonded behind the bottom and/or top teeth. You can wear it for up to a year, but it is often kept in place for life or until the cement begins to fail. Since these are typically only on lower front teeth, you still need a clear overlay retainer to prevent the rest of your teeth from shifting!

Retainer Options
- One great thing about removable retainers is that they can be taken out for eating and hygiene purposes. Always be sure to keep them in the Lawless Orthodontics case that is provided to you at the end of your treatment whenever you remove them. It will be important to keep the 3D printed mold given to you with your new retainer as well, as we will use that to help make your FREE extra retainer incase your first one gets lost or broken.
- The most obvious benefit to fixed retainers is that they stay in your mouth 24/7, which means you can’t lose them during lunch! It also means they’re continuously keeping your teeth in perfect position. Because they are so small, they tend to be much more comfortable than removable retainers. The best part is that nobody will see that you have one!
